FRESH Works is a syringe services program (SSP) that provides fresh supplies and Narcan to those who inject drugs.
All of our services provided through FRESH Works are free of charge. These include distributing free sterile syringes, fentanyl test strips, harm reduction supplies, safe disposal of used equipment, Narcan, wound care and hygiene kits.
FRESH Works is located at CLASS – 1785 Jackson Street in Alexandria
Always Confidential
Our FRESH Works staff members provide non-judgmental Harm Reduction services which include overdose education and referrals to substance use programs. All information, including a person’s identity, is confidential. The Alexandria ordinance approving the establishment of a SSP within the city requires all persons who access FRESH Works receive an ID card to verify they are enrolled in the program. The ordinance provides that enrolled FRESH Works participants will not be subject to prosecution or conviction for possession of drug paraphernalia within the city limits of Alexandria.
Reducing the Spread of HIV and Other Viral Infections
Over thirty years of research has demonstrated that SSPs play an important role in reducing the transmission of HIV, Hepatitis C, and other viral infections. Free HIV, STD, and Hepatitis C testing is offered as well as prevention materials such as condoms. Anyone who tests positive is treated at CLASS or linked to specialty care. A certified Medicaid Application Counselor is available to help uninsured participants enroll in health coverage.
