Cenla Pride 2019

In an effort to promote acceptance and diversity among the Central Louisiana community, CLASS and community volunteers developed and hosted the first annual “Cenla Pride” weekend in June of 2014.

Gay pride or LGBT pride is the positive stance against discrimination and violence toward lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people to promote their self-affirmation, dignity, equality rights, increase their visibility as a social group, and celebrate sexual diversity and gender variance.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month (LGBT Pride Month) is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan.

2019 marks the 50-year anniversary of Stone Wall in NYC. Stonewall, is a gay bar and recreational tavern in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Lower Manhattan, New York City, and the site of the Stonewall riots of 1969, which is widely considered to be the single most important event leading to the gay liberation movement and the modern fight for gay and lesbian rights in the United States.

"Even though it's called Pride, and that is associated with Gay Pride, part of our Gay Pride in Alexandria and Cenla is the fact that we love everybody," - Dc Sills

"Whether you are straight, whether you are gay, whether you are, as the joke says, ladies, gentleman and those that have yet to the decide," – Dc Sills

Cenla Pride is held on the first weekend of June every year.  Mark your calendars now.  Cenla Pride 2019 will be held on May 30, June 1, and June 2 this year.  This weekend is family friendly and promotes the idea that no matter what label society assigns to people; we are all ‘equally human.'
