About Class

Promoting healthy living and
equality for central Louisiana

CLASS was organized as a small grass roots volunteer organization dedicated to meeting the needs of people living with HIV in Alexandria, and has evolved over the past 25 years to a 501 (c) (3) community based organization (CBO) serving the 8 parishes of the Louisiana Office of Public Health's Region 6 area. Although the organization has grown in size and scope, its mission remains the same: to improve the quality of life for those who are infected and affected by HIV; to reduce the risk of HIV transmission; to educate as many people as possible about the spread and prevention of HIV; and to raise community support and awareness of HIV. Because HIV related activities serve as our only mission, the provision of HIV prevention activities is critical in our efforts to stop the spread of the virus. CLASS provides HIV counseling/testing/referral services, conducts outreach activities in designated areas within Region 6, distributes prevention materials in those areas that are most likely to have the maximum impact on reducing new HIV/STI infections, and maximizes the reach and impact on HIV positive persons in Region 6. CLASS is proud to be supported by the United Way of Central Louisiana.
